While grassroots activists, particularly on several college campuses across Kentucky were energized enough by Charlie's speech to the Young Dems to start several Ditch Mitch efforts, national groups are clearly following their lead as well. One group called Americans United for Change recently aired this ad across the state:

Charlie Owen
When the Commonwealth of Kentucky faced one of its largest crises ever, Charlie Owen returned from Washington, D.C., where he served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Justice Department, and became head of the Kentucky Crime Commission. Owen led the efforts to redraw Kentucky's law enforcement training programs, its penal codes, and the medical examiner system. He has been a successful attorney and businessman, and won the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 2003, running on a slate with now-U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler. Owen is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia School of Law.
